With growing trade inflows and outflows in Asia as well as the implementation of the ASEAN economic community, cross-border commercial disputes will inevitably become more common and complex. In order to provide a complete suite of dispute resolution services to support international businesses, Singapore has recently launched the Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC) in November 2014 and the Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC) in January 2015 to complement the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC).
SIMC is the first centre of its kind to focus on providing world-class mediation services aimed at helping international businesses resolve their disputes in a timely and cost-efficient manner. Together with SIAC, SIMC has launched an Arbitration-Mediation-Arbitration service that combines the best of both arbitration and mediation
How does SIMC change the current dispute resolution landscape? How can international businesses benefit from mediation and combine it with arbitration? Mr George Lim, Senior Counsel and Deputy Chairman of SIMC will share his thoughts on how mediation can be used to fast-track international dispute resolution.
The session will culminate with the signing of an MOU between Singapore International Mediation Centre and The Indonesian Mediation Center (PMN).
